Submissions for the Orwell Prize 2009 have now closed, and a record number of entries have been received.
In the Book Prize, 198 eligible books were entered, more than either the Man Booker or Samuel Johnson prizes. Perhaps the most noticeable trend was the increase in the number of novels entered. To view a full list of this year's Book Prize entries, click here.
In the Journalism Prize, 63 journalists entered. A number of publications and programmes entered for the first time this year, including Standpoint, Total Politics, News of the World, Intelligent Life, The World at One, The World Tonight, The Register, Dispatches, Monocle, BioCentre, Church Times, The Difference, Community Voice, Public Servant, The Salon, Slate and the London Review of Books. The Renegade Economist entered a number of YouTube videos, another first for the Orwell Prize. To view a full list of this year's Journalist Prize entries, click here.
83 bloggers entered the
Special Prize for Blogs. There was a mix of independent bloggers, MSM journalists, elected representatives and even - in the spirit of the
Orwell Diaries blog - an assortment of dead historical figures, including Lenin, Tom Paine and Archbishop Cranmer. Donald S submitted a number of
Twitter tweets. To view a full list of the Blog Prize entries, and links to their blogs,
