List of Submissions 2008
Submissions for the Orwell Prize 2008 have now closed.
The Prize has proved to be more popular than ever. A record 181 books were entered for the Book Prize, more than either the Man Booker or Samuel Johnson prizes. 54 entries were submitted for the Journalism Prize, also a record.
Jean Seaton, Chair of the judges, said: “This year, not only have more books and journalists been entered for the Orwell Prize than ever before, but many of the really big-hitting books and journalists of 2007 have been entered. It is a mark of the Prize's growing reputation, lean and mean and entirely focused on the quality of writing and journalism, that the judges face such a daunting task. The Orwell Prize has become a snapshot of the quality of British thinking.”
The longlists for this year’s Orwell Prize will be announced on Wednesday, 27th February 2008. The names of the eighteen books and eighteen journalists that make it through will be published on the Orwell Prize website at noon.
The shortlists will be announced at a panel debate, hosted by Reuters, on ‘The Personalisation of Politics’ on Wednesday 26th March.
